by Playlunch Games

This activity is a fun way for your child to get some practice measuring! You can also use the playdough to explore fractions. See the Maths at home: Measurement and Maths at home: Fractions articles for more information.

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
  • ½ cup salt
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil
  • 1 cup water
  • a few drops of food colour

Method:

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a medium saucepan.
  2. Stir over a medium heat until the mixture comes together. Children may need adult help or supervision with this step.
  3. Scrape the dough onto a bench, allow to cool and knead until it is smooth and pliable.
  4. Store in an airtight container to prevent it drying out.
