Why do people get so anxious about maths?

by Orly Rubensten and TED-Ed

Have you ever sat down to take a maths test and immediately felt your heart beat faster and your palms start to sweat? This is called maths anxiety, and if it happens to you, you're not alone: researchers think about 20 percent of the population suffers from it.

In this video, Orly Rubinsten explores the current research on maths anxiety and explains what researchers think is happening when these feelings occur.

This video was produced by Ted-Ed, an initiative of the TED Foundation.

Professor Orly Rubinsten heads the Cognitive Laboratory, which is affiliated with the Faculty of Education at the University of Haifa in Israel.
